Ananda House at Laurelwood is a non-profit adult care home, located in the beautiful Laurelwood Valley, west of Portland, Oregon. The idea for Ananda House came to its founder, Hanuman, in a dream he had many years ago—of a joyful, multi-generational home, where each family member is valued and recognized for their unique contribution.
This dream, combined with Swami Kriyananda’s “12 Precepts of Evening Hospice“, gives us our direction and ideals. We use these precepts as guides for learning how to view life more consciously. Our lives are dedicated to helping others find their highest expression through meditation, and service to our fellow human beings. Ideals of high thinking and simple living provide the mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual needs of each individual. We follow these principles as a way of helping others “live consciously, to die consciously.” Ananda House is in it’s fifth year of serving souls in this way. The test of time is showing that the precepts of evening hospice work for anyone interested in living a more joyful conscious life.
We are a part of a larger movement of truth seekers, Ananda Church of Self-Realization, and are guided by the teachings of our guru, Paramhansa Yogananda, and our founder, Swami Kriyananda, but our doors are open to truth seekers of any faith, who wish to live in this loving conscious environment.
Our goal is to create and maintain an environment that supports everyone in their quest of realizing their highest potential. In service to others, our ideal is to serve God equally in all. In meditation, our ideal is to set aside the ego and to allow the divine consciousness to penetrate into every corner of our beings.
If this is a place where you would enjoy living, or you have a friend or family member who may be interested, please drop us a line. We love to have guests and to share our vision with one another.
